RE: Bike recommendations

Another vote for the folding bike option. We bought a pair of Avenir (made by Dahon) aluminum 20" 6speed bikes. Like another poster, I may not ever ride my mountain bike again. Very comfortable. I like the way my handlebars are higher than on my mountain bike. Much better and more comfortable. Pick a seat that is comfortable for you and you can always change from the one it came with if you need to. They fold up as small as the average folding bike and came with carrying bags. Paid $400. each tax everything included. It would have been another $200. per bike if I went with the Dahon brand name stamped on and yet I have Dahons. I believe each region gets a rebranded Dahon called something else. Here in Canada, ours is Avenir. I think the States have the Yeah. Not sure. Good luck with your quest.

RE: Chemical/Sulfur smell outside of new 5th

Water heater already drained and it didn't smell. Going camping for 3 nights today and will leave battery home as we are going to somewhere with full service. Hopefully that will fix it! Thanks for the ideas. Not sure if this will work so any other ideas are appreciated! Will be checking for replies from CG as it has WiFi.

Chemical/Sulfur smell outside of new 5th

We just got our new 2009 FR Wildcat 4 weeks ago. Noticed when outside the rig a chemical type smell, one of us thinks its sulfur like. It seems most strong around the front half. Have already flushed out all tanks. It has been parked for 4 weeks and now that we have picked it up to get ready to go camping the smell is just as strong as when we first got it home June 4th. We don't notice it inside the trailer at least. But sitting outside under the awning will not be a pleasant experience. I am hoping someone has an idea what it could be??? And more importantly how to get rid of it! Thanks.

RE: air dream mattress

Our new 2009 FR Wildcat came with a "sofabed" that has the air mattress. It like the one above comes with an electric pump which very quickly inflates and deflates (without pump). No coils underneath. Can't remember the name of it. Not sure I'd want to sleep on it but our 15 year old will.

RE: Gun on trailer?

Thanks. I guess I needed to be reminded why I am nervous about camping in the States. Think I'll stay camping in Canada. Never seen a need for a gun and want to keep it that way!

RE: 2004 wildcat quality?

... However, the 27RL does have very good grey water capacity. If you are going to dry camp, which we do, we wanted at least a 50 gal grey tank. The 27RL has a 100 gal tank. So it has lots of capacity.... Roy When we looked at the 2007 Wildcat, the holding tanks were smaller. I think the first year they upped the size recently was the 2008's. Don't quote me, check into it if the size of the holding tanks are an issue.

RE: Just got her home!!!!!

Yes, Valley, Husky, same thing... we have a 16k 4 way pivot, not underbed, slider, never had to slide yet, very solid, no slack, very happy with it. Yes, it sounds like the same hitch. 16K, 4 way pivot. I don't think we needed the slider as we have a long box. Oh, and thanks to the others about the wildcat forum. Already a member!

Just got her home!!!!!

The long long wait is finally over! (9 months) Just got home with our new 2009 FR Wildcat 29RLBS. Love that power awning. Part of our sales deal (trade in trailer and Hensley Hitch) was a new 5th wheel hitch. They put in a dual pivoting Husky brand 5th wheel hitch. Anyone familiar with those hitches? Are they good quality? This dealer has been very fair and good to us and we will continue to shop there. I can't wait to get out and camp in it!

RE: Wildcat, Sabre, Cougar Help Me

I don't believe most folks full time in a Wildcat. You might want to look at models a bit higher up.

RE: JAYCO vs WILDCAT? I Want a 5th wheel asap! Help!

We traded in our Jayco (travel trailer 32.5 ft) for a Wildcat 5th. Can't say Jayco is all it is cracked up to be. We had the major floor problem and other little things where I would say the workmanship was not good. We wouldn't buy a Jayco again. We were very impressed with the quality in the Wildcat and hope it wears as well as it looks as we are picking it up on Wednesday.

RE: Fifth wheel trailers how much should i pay?

When we were looking last summer, I calculated that buying from RV Direct would cost me just about as much as if I bought local. You have to figure on the gas going to pick it up and take it home and possibly a hotel, extra meals out etc etc. Really though, if after looking around, you know what you want, go to a few dealers and see what they will offer. If you're happy that's all that matters! Life is too short! p.s. we saved almost $5,000. by going to a dealer almost 4 hours away.

RE: Ready to buy, am I missing something on bargining ???

Here's our experience. On the way home from camping last summer we dropped into the next closest Forest River dealer from our home (which is 4 hours from home). They beat the price from the local dealer by well over $4,000. This is after much friendly negotiating with the local dealer. But we knew how much it was worth and told them up front about our 1 yr old mint trade-in. It pays to look around! Good Luck!

RE: Here is ouyr new RIG!

That looks like a great trailer. Not a bad truck too! I'm jealous. We were supposed to pick up our new trailer on the 23rd of April but it's delayed due to a parts shortage. Happy Camping!

RE: What to look for in a 5er

Another thing to look at if this applies to you, our last TT had a 74" (length) bed. Husband is 6' tall and his feet always hung over the end. One of the reasons (there are many) why we chose our next trailer is that the bed length is 80". If you are going to spend any length of time in a trailer it has to be comfortable.

RE: Wildcat, Sabre, Cougar Help Me

We looked at both the Cougar and the Wildcat. We thought we got a better bang for our buck for the Wildcat. It really is a personal choice though. As for quality, can't say yet. Pick up the 'Cat in 2 weeks so can't comment yet. As for esthetics, look all three over carefully and decide which one gives you the best options/features etc. that will make you the most happy. We saw the Cougar first with a not-very experience salesperson. Then we saw the Wildcat and the salesperson gave us a very thorough look through at everything. Unfortunately this dealer wouldn't deal and we bought 3 hours away to save over $4,000. Good Luck with your search!

Thanks to all of you. TennesseeBob you had the ones closest to Lansing. One right in it. Probably go there. Don't know why it did't come up when I googled it? Anyway thanks.
